KUALA LUMPUR - Starting from 15 October 2021, and the beginning of the new semester, many students of Universiti Malaya have returned to their campus to have hybrid classes (combination of physical and online classes) after one and a half years of lockdown.

To break the COVID-19 chain, the permission to return to the campus was only given to fully-vaccinated students in all categories and involved all phases of the National Recovery Plan. They also need to provide the MySejahtera vaccination status and be required to do the COVID-19 swab test when arriving at the campus.

Before the day, the university ordered every faculty to arrange their own schedule for the students, which would take turns and attend the physical and online classes. This arrangement is to avoid the crowded lecture hall and lead to non-compliance with Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

The frequency of students attending the physical or online class depends on the capacity of lecture halls and the total number of students per class. Some faculty assign students to attend the physical class twice a week while some of them only need to attend one physical class in two weeks. Some of the faculty such as the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, request their students to attend every class of their course physically.

As the opening of the campus for the hybrid class, all of the residence colleges (Kolej Kediaman) have been open for check-in by the students. The registration process is smooth and strictly controlled by the person in charge under the supervision of police Universiti Malaya.

Although the number of COVID-19 positive cases per day in Malaysia has gradually decreased, the university did not take it lightly on the health of all the school members. All of the lecturers and students were requested to measure body temperature and encouraged to use the hand sanitiser that has been prepared by faculty in every lecture hall.

Plus, all of the students in the lecture hall requested to sit separately, which needed to keep both sides empty. A MySejahtera check-in QRcode is also provided on every seat to detect the whereabouts of students.
